What about Don McLean’s “American Pie”?

American Pie is all about my youth. I guess not everybody gets it, but that's OK.

As a kid (12) I used to go to the Hobo camps in Redding CA by the railroad tracks. My cousins and I would sit by the fire and listen to their stories and just talk to them. Don't remember any booze but after 30 minutes or so we would ask them for money because we wanted to go play pool. They always gave us something. It was a different America then and the song sort of captures it for me.

Hi, and thanks for sharing that interesting story. I probably was a bit unfair in my initial comment about the song and it is good to hear perspectives such as yours to get a better one for myself.
