USA Today publisher Gannett, suffering from the ongoing print-ad declines that have hurt the broader newspaper industry, is cutting jobs as it reported a loss in its latest quarter.
The company said it is cutting 2 percent of its staff. Gannett had nearly 19,000 employees at the end of 2015, suggesting more than 300 jobs were lost. Gannett spokeswoman Amber Allman did not reply to a question asking how many employees are losing their jobs.

2 thumbs up!
Sometimes I read USA Today at a motel, and I just can’t figure out how or why it exists. Not that many ads, and read by a demographic that doesn’t care. You just skim the paper, maybe look at sports or entertainment, and the ads don’t seem to have any traction, especially if you’re from out of town, as many readers are.
I haven’t read a newspaper on a regular basis for at least 25 years. I used to read one every day.
They are far left, so this is music to my ears. I’d like to see NYT, WaPost, and many others join them with massive losses.
USSA Today ? Nothing but deranged, anti-Trump hate dripping from every page.
go broke soon

Sigh, another loss leader to be purchased by a billionaire for political influence.
Gee that’s too bad.
McPaper going the way of Ronald Macdonald.
Really liked they were not a giant paper like I grew up with, the sections were colorful, precise, nice, and very 30 years ago. Once I started reading the headlines on the front page that I had read the day before on FR there was never again a reason to buy any paper.
People must not be keeping parakeets as pets as much these days...
Me too!
Rumor recently that they were going to buy the Dallas News. In preparation for putting itself up for sale, the News is selling its present building and moving into much smaller rental space, and they’ve put their electronic edition behind a paywall to try to make the numbers look better there. (Of course, it’s going to greatly reduce the exposure for their advertisers, but since they’ve been caught faking circulation numbers before, perhaps they can fix that issue).
We'll all be better for it, and even better informed.
News PRINT can’t keep up with the Internet sites ...even the news TV media is having difficulty because they have to spend far too much time getting Hillary’s or Obama’s permission before they run their stories....and make the adjustments to frame it accordingly. Meanwhile the story is already traveling light-speed across the Internet by Citizen Journalists.
The colorful subheadings is precisely why they’re going under. People want to be informed. This newspaper clearly appeals to the lowest common-denominator who is only reading it for the top 25 college football rankings or Hollywood award nominees.
Dripping sarcasm noted.... and appreciated :)
