Recently began looking up all the C&W songs and artists I enjoyed in my younger days.
Green Green Grass of Home is particularly poignant. Great performance by one of the greats who's no longer with us.

Whenever a song comes out in the style they now call country, I listen to an old one.

I got pounded recently for stating that I don’t listen to the current music because it has no melody, no decent lyrics; they all sound the same. Hillary type screeching;;(

Think he inspired; ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’. Love that Glen Campbell - don’t know how he’s doing. Also Randy Travis.
Losing too many great artists.

I’ve listened to the new style of country music (not so new any more) on the Country Music Awards show enough to know I don;t like it. Of course there are a few exceptions.

>Love that Glen Campbell - dont know how hes doing. Not so well. Suffering from advanced Alzheimers, he can't talk or sing and recognizes few people. He was a fine singer and virtuoso guitarist.

I used to think Porter was too corny to take seriously, but I eventually - "belatedly" if you will - had to give him credit where it was due. I stopped listening to most new C&W in the mid-1990's and now listen to either old stuff or the people who hang on to the "old ways" (that includes Porter's fan Marty Stuart).

I remember seeing the two sitting at a table in the restaurant of a local motel years ago.

Thanks for link to Aaron Lewis's "That Ain't country." Liked the part where he referred to the country greats of the past (Willie still around) with an expletive not deleted. Lewis's style struck me as a blend of the old and the new.
