Here in VA black bears are pretty common now. I remember hearing on the radio when we first moved here 20 years ago the Virginia Beach Toll Road was blocked by a 300 lb black bear. I remember thinking, “WTH?”

Back around 2000 someone shot one in the dismal swamp that was ~700 pounds IIRC...

In michigan about one year ago, a bow hunter was knocked over by a black bear as he drew back his compound bow for a shot at a deer. He never saw bear until it clocked him. That’s a story for deer camp.
