Ensure that it’s chambered for 5.56 or has a wylde chamber that takes both 5.56 and .223. Stay away from .223 chambered. And keep it simple. You don’t have to go expensive. I recommend the Ruger AR556 or S&W M&P Sport II. You can customize from there. AND buy before the election, just in cast. Good Luck.
The S&W M&P Sport II is what I ended up with. Very satisfied. Plenty of positive stuff on youtube about ‘em.

I have read this for years about the difference in the 5.56 and the .223.
5.56 has a different chamber “lede” and a thicker case than the .223 and that is it.
Now I know it is all BUNKUM the last COLT AR-15 (M-4) I bought has 5.56 on the box with serial number, and the rifle has .223 stamped on the rifle with the same serial number.
I’ve been shooting both 5.56 and .223 in Ruger Mini-14 for the last forty years with no problems.
