Man Sues Over Arrest After Cops Mistook Doughnut Glaze for Meth
NBC Miami ^ | Oct 21, 2016

A Florida man arrested last year after police mistook doughnut glaze in his car for meth is suing the city of Orlando and a drug-testing kit company.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Daniel Rushing filed a lawsuit last week, claiming negligence by the city and the kit's manufacturer.

Rushing was arrested on drug charges last December when Orlando police officers spotted four tiny flakes of glaze on his floorboard and thought they were pieces of crystal methamphetamine. Rushing told officers it was likely sugar from Krispy Kreme doughnuts he'd eaten, but two roadside drug tests were positive for the illegal substance.

A state crime lab test cleared Rushing several weeks later and charges were dropped.

Orlando police have said the arrest was lawful. The paper says the city declined comment.

You’d think the police would know doughnut glaze when they see it.

It was just a case of bad luck.
The cops that stopped this guy prefer maple and chocolate glazed doughnuts.

I know!!!

Cop pulled Boudreaux over and said, Sir I notice your eyes look kind of red, have you been drinking?

Boudreaux said, No Sir, but I notice your eyes look kind of glazed, have you been eating doughnuts?

In college, my best friend and I would head for the Krispy Kreme store, hoping the Hot Doughnuts sign was on. We would split a dozen donuts and pass a quart of milk between us to wash them down. Manna from Heaven.

good times.

Orlando police have said the arrest was lawful.

Well it WAS lawful - they're the law, and they did it.

Only communists have a problem with that.

He will win this case; no jury is going to believe that a cop doesn’t recognize donut glaze.

Well, one giveaway from this... How do we know that previous tests weren't also wrong?

There was an case some years ago where a drug dog’s record was subpoenaed. Turns out rhe dog was 50/50 on drug hits, no better than a coin flip. Such is the silliness of Prohibition.

I bet he still got a tasty snack on the false reads, though.

I know cops eat powdered donuts to save time on chalking crime scenes but, this takes the cake...

I would watch tv cops dip their finger in some bag of powder then taste it and say if it was cocaine or not.
Police officers are connoisseurs of donuts - See Chief Clancy Wiggins and they should be able to tell which glaze came from what donut and what shop with just a look.

The two hundred pound German shepherd alerted on it.
