Film/videos usually operate through sequels and prequels. Comics are so episodic that the time line doesn’t need consistency, so things can be added anywhere along the time line. In fact, there usually isn’t a time line.
In other words, I think it would be more difficult to take a primarily video character and revise his character than to do the same for a cartoon/comic book character. But then again, many of the famous video characters are derived from comics, and it doesn’t take much imagination to read something into the Batman/Robin relationship.
