A lot of people don’t want to think about it, because they think it is complex - it makes their head hurt. They are afraid people will think they are “populists”. = nuts.
We are seeing now, right now, why the clause was and is so important.

Both major party candidates (Clinton, Trump) are natural-born citizens, so we don’t hear about that topic in the news anymore, now that the ineligible Cruz, Rubio, and Jindal have dropped out.
