Almost half of all men are trimming or shaving their leg hair – why?

Almost half of men admit to trimming or shaving their leg hair – en eyebrow raising admission, even for a generation of spornosexual manscapers.

Male hair trimming that rarely concerns body hair south of the border, unless you’re a professional swimmer or cyclist – but these days average Joes everywhere are taking razors to their hairy pins.

Surveying their Facebook followers, Men’s Health found that while the majority of men are not completely shaving their legs, a surprising 15 per cent are, while a further 33 per cent admitted: “I don’t shave clean, but I do use a trimmer to cut it down”. That’s nearly half of the men polled that are tackling their leg hair in some way or form – but why?

Example: When you see what someone has drawn, or an actor has been chosen, to represent a gross/unattractive body, what do they almost always have? Excess body hair all over.

We make fun of Rosie O here with her face on a massively hairy muslim guy’s body.

Exactly correct. Our culture has always gone for the clean shaven, non animalistic hairy body. Some chest hair can be good. But no women clamors for the guy who has it on his shoulders and back. Wookie is not desireable.

Before the "new" suits that the men wear now, Olympic swimmers shaved their bodies.

Johnny Weissmuller used to practice at a pool that my grandmother used to go to and I have her pictures of Mr. Weissmuller...alone, and with her and my mother, when she was a child.

Then off Johnny went to be a movie star and I guess that someone told him to continue to shave his arms, chest, and legs. *SHRUGS*

As for powdered wigs, tey weren’t quite as heavily used by our American rebels simply because they could not afford or easily obtain them. However, many did powder their own hair quite a bit.
*****************************
I believe the wigs became popular when they discovered that, after shaving their heads or cutting the hair very short, they were better able to prevent head lice infestations.

...I can’t come up with any sane reason for men to shave their legs.

Perhaps it is an indication that the homosexualist government of the USA is having the effect of homosexualizing every male who had some moment of ambivalence in his early puberty so that that constant 2-3% or so really has become 10-15%. I certainly hope not but it seems that half of everyone in the public eye is “coming out” these days.

I can’t say that I have noticed this but really probably wouldn’t take notice anyway unless someone pointed it out. My guess is 50% is a huge exaggeration. But I’ll play along. What could be behind this is the shaving industry. What better way to increase sales of shaving creme and razors?

Studies have also found that men prefer women with small or no breasts, and giant cellulite thighs.

Thanks for a laugh before I leave for work!

Lena Dunham in other words.

Amen. So ridiculous. Betting many of the males responding to the survey are homosexuals.

My hairy husband is a real man.

The percentage of shavers is based on who follows “Men’s Health” on Fakebook, so I am guessing not too many real men are represented in the “survey”.

Almost half? Hardly. I admit that I did not go to the link, but the excerpt tells me that the numbers that are referenced are based on the number of respondents to a survey on FB conducted by “Men’s Health”. So not exactly a representative sample of real men.

God took care of most of the hair that used to be on my head. The rest I shave off myself.

I read a thesis right here on FR about those stupid beards:

Young men nowadays have absolutely no idea what it is to be a man. No one ever taught them. Their parent failed them utterly, and society no longer presents manly men in a positive light. All heroes nowadays are anitheroes, fighting racism, or something.

However, they ache to be respected and be considered men, and yet it is beyond their ability to be actual men .

Thus, they follow trendy fads, just like a chick would, and one fad is the stupid beard. It is a signal to others: “Look! I’m a man!”.

When it gets hot here I shave the hair around my butt hole because mtn biking makes it clammy and grabby and painful if I do not.

Several of my biking friends acknowledge the same.

But they manage to somehow seem even more metro and effeminate with the stupid beards, so it’s backfiring.
