The Stars honored five officers slain in downtown Dallas this summer, wearing decals of their badges on their helmets during a season-opening 4-2 win.
Family members of two of the slain officers, Dallas police Sgt. Michael Smith and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer Brent Thompson, participated in the pregame ceremonial puck drop.
The captains for both teams, Jamie Benn of the Stars and Ryan Getzlaf of the visiting Anaheim Ducks, joined them at center ice. When introduced, the families got a long and loud ovation in the arena only a few blocks from where the five officers were killed by a sniper on July 7.
The other officers killed were Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Lorne Ahrens and Dallas police officers Michael Krol and Patrick Zamarripa.
Very nice......
Hockey guts. Maybe because it isn’t dominated by black fascists like the NFL and NBA.
Screw you NFL.
Awesome
Yeah, I think that’s right.
Agree. The Negro Felons League should be taking lessons.
Football is dead to me. Got rid of my NFL package and bought Center Ice last night, just in time for my Rangers to beat Potvin’s wife.
I think the NFL’s problems are only going to multiply and accelerate before they realize they have to correct them.
The Stars do it, but the Cowboys couldn’t? They should have done it no matter what the NFL said, and to heck with the consequences. I think the NFL would have faced a public relations nightmare over it.
I.love.hockey.even.more.now.
Love my Dallas Stars. I teared up.
Good for them. Brett Hull’s skate was still in the crease, though....
Well said.
Ha ha. He will never live that one down.
Sure. Ping me. I’m a Stars fan.
Title said “Stars”, I wondered what actors had backbone enough to do this...shows how much I follow sports...
I don’t care a thing about hockey, or football, but I have to salute these guys, no matter what they do for a living. And it helps that they are from TEXAS...hehe
I’m sure it has a little to do with the fact that they are also from Dallas, where it happened. Good for them, I hope they keep it up.
Good on the Dallas Stars, if I lived there I’d be a proud season ticket holder (really good team too).
Also, PK Subban visited the Nashville police to support them just after he was traded from Montreal. Most hockey players are good people and easy to cheer for.
Even though Subban seems to create chaos he appears to be a good guy. I also notice that he blesses himself before going on the ice. That tells me that he has some character.
