Well lucky you. I have many friends and relatives who have a difference of opinion form me and I rejoice if they change their mind but it must be very nice for you to be in an ivory tower surrounded by ideological purity. I wouldn’t be able to breathe.
I’m only willing to put up with so much from people I’m around frequently. Nobody in my family or circle of acquaintances is outright leftist — most are either conservatives or “moderate Republicans,” and a couple are totally uninformed swing-voter types (who voted for Bernie.) My extended-extended family has some flaming liberals — been years since I interacted with them.
I prefer the smaller circle of like-minded people myself; I can’t relate to people who think they’re entitled to a nice chunk of my paychecks. I don’t know any “liberals” who weren’t paid to be such, whether they were government employees or receiving some sort of government assistance. The division is that stark once you’re past 40 years old...
