I remember Clutch Cargo. That had to be one of the most bizarre cartoon shows ever produced. Each episode consisted of mostly still drawings, very little actual animation, and human lips superimposed on the character's faces to show them talking. It must have cost about ten bucks per episode to produce.

It was an inexpensive, pioneering technology that allowed a small studio to compete with the Disney level.

As I recall, Clutch was the first made-for-teevee cartoon; before that, they were recycled cinema endeavors.

THere were two other cartoons like that: Captain Fathom and Space Angel.

The only one I ever saw was Captain Fathom. Plots were pretty cool—very Jonny Quest-esque—but I couldn’t get past those weird lips and static poses. It was the “uncanny valley” effect decades before they had a name for it.
