This was not his offspring. This was someone else’s offspring. That someone was not taking care of it ie the father. Where was this baby’s father? He should have been caring for his daughter.
Probably never in the picture or driven off by the mother.

Generally, fathers aren’t allowed to hang around the house once the mother decides they don’t want to be in a relationship with them anymore.
