LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) Los Angeles animal shelters say they are awash in kittens and in need of foster parents to help care for the kittens until they reach eight weeks of age, the Department of Animal Services said Friday.
The Department of Animal services said it has thousands of kittens under its care each year and currently has hundreds of kittens in need of fostering.
The shelters are looking for volunteers who can care for the kittens until they are 8 weeks old. At that age, the kittens can be spayed or neutered and sent to a new home. Foster care volunteers are given training, for example, in how to bottle feed kittens who are not able to eat independently.

After reading earlier today about people wanting to help with the bill for housing pit bulls being evacuated from Montreal, it would appear we’ve found a partial fix.
It’s amazing how nature provides, at times.
PLEASE, if you're NOT SURE you want the responsibility of a FUREVER FRIEND, DO NOT GET ONE! If you do, RESCUE FROM ONE OF THE SHELTERS. DO NOT GO TO A PET STORE OR A FOR-PROFIT "PUPPY MILL. IT ONLY ENCOURAGES THEM TO BREED MORE SHELTER AND HEART NEEDLE-STICK SHELTER DOGS NOBODY WANTS! And if you do rescue, PLEASE SPAY OR NEUTER so scenes such as that below can end once and for all!
And if this image fails to move you, you probably lack the sensitivity to care for an animal so DO NOT GET ONE! Let's work very hard to put those shelter executioners OUT OF BUSINESS!!
Montreal pit bulls need assistance:

I’ve taken about all I can, but my love goes to each one of them. They are truly a gift from God.
This is so sad.
Please get your pets fixed so that these poor animals don’t end up like this!
What is odd is people used to automatically assume I was a dog person.
Oh man, I didn’t need to see that.
Thousands like that scene EACH DAY! SPAY AND NEUTER to stop it!
I’ve always adopted rescues and taken in strays. I do what I can, but I’m just one person. I’ve never been able to bear the pound, though. Those poor creatures. They know, and it hurts me to see it.
Some like kitten but I think it is too boney even when stewed
As I told a coworker, I have not gone to the shelter to get a new furry friend in decades. That is because I take whatever shows up in my yard—I’m not picky.
The last of my yard kittens is now 10 years old. I still call him my baby.
Adopting now. Kittens for Mittens Inc.

One of our (fixed) male cats has brought in 3 kittens. Something must have happened to their mama as we haven’t seen her in a while. If these ever decide we’re ok, we’ll have 7 cats. They’re food bowl is on the porch but if I’m not watching, they come inside to eat from our cats’ and dogs’ bowls.
Two are peeking at me through the window...
Ack, one ran off as I started down the steps. The other took off when I was 6 feet away. I’ve been working on them for over a month. Way too skittish.
Also support your local no-kill rescue shelters!
Thanks for the photo, Joe. Simply precious!
