Not a Yankees fan, not a Red Sox fan. But this article rings absolutely true. The only differemce between Big Papi and A-Rod is A-Rod was a bigger jerk and thus easier to sacrifice in the name of sellimg the public on the myth that MLB had cleaned up its PED problem.
Breaking the curse in 2004 was too big a story to taint. And make no mistake, take Papi and Manny out of that lineup and the Sox win squat. Manny was outed, but only a few months after leaving the Sox.
The truth will out. When it does, Pappi will be retired. But it will destroy his legacy and harm the game.

I rather liked Marcia Brady too.
He was with them 1997-2000. Then he was put on waivers and the Red Sox claimed him. His career essentially had collapsed. Suddenly, he was “Big Papi”!

He was so bad in 2001 that he spent most of the year in AAA. He was a whole different guy when he came back: bigger and suddenly more of a power hitter.
Only 14 games in the minors in 2001 - I’m pretty sure they were rehab assignments. I think that’s the year he broke his hamate bone in his wrist.
Also, his ISO (Isolated Power: TB-H/AB) was higher in 2001 than in 2002.

He was with the Twins through 2002, not 2000. He wasn’t put on waivers, they had the option to offer him arbitration or allow him to become a free agent. They chose the latter.
I don't think so - I think he's from the Dominican Republic. There are plenty of international players here on work visas. Occasionally there's a paperwork snag and someone has to report late to spring training, although that seems to happen less often now than it used to.
Ortiz was drafted by the Mariners and spent several uneventful minor league seasons before being traded to the Minnesota Twins as part of a deal for the Mariners getting Dave Hollins.
Ortiz showed plenty of power with the Twins, but had trouble staying healthy and couldn’t play defense. The Twins organization has always taken a dim view of PEDs, and rumors plagued Ortiz so they let him go.
Position players Matthew Lecroy and Justin Morneau replaced Ortiz’ DH at-bats.
Ortiz became a US citizen in 2008.
As a baseball player who went as far as Div I college ball, I don’t think a DH should ever be in the hall of fame. Baseball was designed so you have to play defense and offense, the DH rule sucks.
Last time I checked Babe and Ty Cobb played defense. That is the issue, and PED.
Pitchers often just play defense.

Didnt they have the DH in college? I used to work tons of baseball at D2 and D3 level. I honestly do not recall them having a DH. I worked a D3 where they used tin bats and a D2 league with wooden bats. There is nothing like the sound of a decent hit on a wooden bat.
I don’t care about him getting into the HOF. Most people in the Red Sox area dismiss all of that stuff and think of him helping break the curse AND the speech after the bombing.
The entire modern era in baseball is a mish-mash mess.
I spent too much time at collegiate sports. I never had much patience with the pro games. I worked as a photographer for Athletic Departments. The restrictive nature of professional sports turned me sour on them. If they could get away with putting coin slots on the toilets they would.
