Thanks.

My mother was a cashier in a department store and I know they had policies about employees purchasing things when they were working. I can’t remember what they were, but I know they had them.

A store with several employees, (or even more then one) you must have another employee check you out. No exceptions.

When you are the only employee it just flat out is not possible. I can just see me calling my manager to come in to sell me a cup of coffee at 4:00 am.

There are usually other policies in place as to eating at your station which is a no-no unless, once again, you are the only employee. In that case they generally just keep it to "not in front of the customers".

The two hard and fast rules were that you could not buy alcohol or lottery tickets while working.
