He tried to take a ride on a manatee. Then he took a ride to jail

FWC Officer Courtney Baumgartner went to the Islamorada Library Beach, a small park off mile marker 81.5, around noon Friday when witnesses reported that a man in a creek was touching two adult manatees and their two calves. It’s against the law to molest manatees.

A witness advised the defendant that making contact with manatees was against the law, but the man reportedly declared, “I’m riding it!”

...

Massengale denied being warned away from the protected marine mammal and became “verbally combative,” FWC Officer Bobby Dube, an agency spokesman, said....

Although the FWC officer planned to give Massengale a notice to appear in court on the misdemeanor manatee violation, the defendant “continuously chanted ‘Take me to jail’ ”and said he would not show up for his case.

Islamorada Library?

Does their collection consist solely of Korans and other Muslim texts?

Another example of people getting fed up with the nanny crowd. I hear this sort of thing on our police scanner several times a week when do-gooders ask for police intervention. Most of the time their concerns are crap.

Blow up at the cops? Sure. As the RP’s (reporting party) almost never has the balls to ID themselves.

Sounds rather like a kangaroo court to me. Baseless allegations over which one is not allowed to face their accuser.

I was at Gene Coulon park in Renton one day during the off season and I had a gosling Canadian honker in my hands and was petting it. It was very calm. I seem to have that effect on animals. Can’t explain it. Keep in mind, they had lots of signs saying “don’t feed the geese” because they hang around and ruin the grass. i.e. they are a nuisance.

A really young park ranger came by and asked me in a sort of, “I naturally assume you are” tone if I worked with the university. I said, “Naw. I’m just petting a goose.” He got all agitated and said I was breaking the law and stuff and I needed to let it go.

I told him that at my daughter’s place in South Dakota they shoot these en-mass and they are a nuisance so why would he not want me touching it?

Anyway, I let it go and now I’m at my farm in KY where I pet baby bunnies my cats catch (gotta get ‘em before the cats break the skin), and goof around with possom (they are very slow) and stuff like that.

Nature is wonderful and I love not having to worry about the fascist state getting between it and me.

And don’t even get me started on “yelling at” sealions. Apparently that’s illegal too. :-\

The state. They meddle.

Isla Madora = Wooded Island in Spanish. Making it one continuous word was not the best idea.

This isnt nanny state nonsense. The Manatee is protected in Florida. It is a harmless and curious animal that will interact with humans. This idiot was trying to ride one. He was warned and chose to do it anyway. The cop was going to let him off with a summons and fine, but this dummy wanted to go to jail.

“Please show us on the doll where he touched them..... “

Was the manatee dressed provocatively?

Welcome to Florida where manatees have more protection than the unborn human, or the severely disabled. Unfortunately, Terri Schiavo was unavailable for comment.
