Given the current state of affairs I think the writer could have been more genteel in his description.

The barely mentioned murder was a White guy that these young men of color kidnapped, tortured and murdered.

We once had a friend who played for the Ravens. He weighed 320. I cooked two dinners instead of one, although he ate heart-healthy. Had to make sure he sat in the metal-framed chair.

Ouch...that sounds like it would suck. I’ve been in fights with guys twice my size, almost every time actually since I was always a small guy and every bully in school thought he had to push me around. It’s pretty scary, but sometimes I just decided I’d had enough and tore into some dumbass twice my size to let him know I wouldn’t take it any more. A couple of times and you learn to handle yourself, use your size and agility to your own advantage, and use speed and leverage.
Fortunately I never had to deal with a serious football player though, that would certainly be a challenge...even after a couple of years as sparring partner for a martial arts expert. Still might be a problem. And I’m not talking about some guy who had a half dozen karate classes, this guy had a legitimate black belt. Kicked my butt every time for about 3 months until I learned to keep up...Once I could hold my own we both loved it, beat each other to a pulp without actually doing physical damage, our friends were betting on who would win the next round.
It did get hairy. He kicked me in the chin one day by accident, knocked me down, I leaned into it going for a punch. I scored a hit to his leg I thought had broken it...fortunately it was ok, but he couldn’t walk for about 15 minutes...bloody lip a few times, he nailed me in the middle of the chest once hard enough to knock my breath out...and knock me down...we were both about the same size, within an inch, and within 15 lbs of the same weight. Nice match. It was fun, and instructional, but the next day it felt like I had been run over by a truck...he told me the same thing. We practiced 3 times a week for about 2 years.
I’m still not sure I could have handled a pro football player even back then while I was doing it. That would be a serious challenge...We both took on some big guys, always to stop a fight already in progress. I threw one of them 10 feet across a bar. The bartender, Tiny, brought me a free pitcher of beer, told me thanks, there was no way he could get there fast enough. Yep, Tiny was one guy I would NOT fool with...around 280 lbs, 6’ 3” or so...I was 5’ 10” and maybe 130...if I had a roll of quarters in my pocket...As usual, Tiny was the nicest guy, wouldn’t hurt a fly...just don’t piss him off...I gave the beer to my friends I was with, I had already had my 2 for the night.
