They came to Washington, DC, but they couldn't find any intelligent life, only politicians, so they left think that there's no intelligent life on this planet.
They saw a picture of ZERO, so they thought nobody with intelligence would elect him for anything.

Arecibo was used to transmit a message to a star system 20K light years away when it was first put into operation.
The message lasted about 10 minutes. The project guy figured that was all the assembled people could take watching a dish broadcast radio waves. Sort of loses something not having any immediate indication of what's going on.
Probably ran out of booze, too.

True. We should eliminate radio and TV signals and stage a fake nuclear war to make the aliens (if there are any) think that we killed ourselves and poisoned the planet. Let them look elsewhere...because if they are a space caring race and we aren’t, their technology will be so far ahead of ours that they could wipe us out in a matter of hours or days.
