It took me a second to figure out what picture was. At first, I would have sworn that you were posting an extremely obscene photo (best described as large, semi-aquatic, wood-eating, dam-building rodent shot) ...

Sometimes even the dead squirrel makes it into the news cycle.

Make sure that ‘Rocky’ is dead before you dare touching him!
Living squirrels move and bite like a bolt of lightening.
Sure he isn’t just takin a nap?

I walked to school checking my traplines in the winter. I caught ‘coons, mushrats and rabbits in them. I took the fur (except the rabbits). Nothing went to waste except the bones and tails from the mushrats.

You avoid eating squirrel this time of year in my neck of the woods.
I began seeing wolfs a couple weeks ago.

They are not bad eatin’.

We ate a lot of squirrel growing up. Mom’d fry it, braise it and BBQ it. Good eating, particularly the big fat fox squirrels. But we only had chicken and dumplings for some reason, never squirrel dumplings.

Used to have squirrel and dumplings fairly regularly. Grandpap would save the heads for dessert too, though I’ve heard since that that has a link to some cjd cases. (He made it just short of 101 though).

Squirrel dumplings.

Almost as good as granny’s possum grits!

Years back, my buddy and I made slow-cooked BBQ teriyaki squirrel quarters and venison chili for a Super Bowl party, and there wasn't a morsel left once the guests tucked into it. Best. Party. Ever.
