She must be a single mother.
Calling the police for discipline support will only work so much. You can’t overplay that card.
My parents would have just told me to buckle up or get a whopping, i make the choice.

My Dad would have just said: And I quote “do it or I’ll rap you upside your head”. If I heard that once I heard it a million times growing up.

It makes me laugh now.

You’re kidding right?

Will they move in so the kids has a REAL father 24/7.

An idiot mom who can’t control the kids at 3.

When I was a kid, back in the good ol' days, I had a tendency to play with my seat belt. Buckle, unbuckle, let it run back and pull it out again, kid stuff.

My mom was going to the store one morning and was going to wake me up to go with her. At the last minute she decided just to let me sleep in. In the intersection about three blocks from our house she was hit by a silly git who apparently didn't realize that a red light meant stop.

Our car, a big Chrysler was totaled. If I had been in the front seat playing with my seat belt I probably would have been killed or seriously injured.

The next time we were in the car and I started playing with the seat belt I got my hands smacked. After a couple of times I learned not to do that any more.

No, not kidding. I read the story and followed the link to see Mom’m interview and, IMHO, BOTH the Mom & the cops did good. It’s OK for you to disagree and to be as judgmental as you please.

That line worked then, and would work now if said with enough seriousness. Sometimes you have to back up talk with a little carefully administered action. Officer Dad is present in this car.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

My dad would say, “I’ll tan your hide”. I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant but I knew it wasn’t good.

I knew exactly what my dad meant. He didn’t leave any room for imagination. Lol

A kid hears that line (Tan your hide!), and they start seeing leather belts, long leafy switches and oversized serving spoons. I later discovered that the actual meaning is quite different.

No seatbelts in the 1950’s...only Mom or Dad’s arm flung out to stop your head from hitting the dashboard. Scariest thing that ever happened was the passenger door flinging open as my Dad was making a left turn. Thank God he had the arm barrier manuever down. It kept me and my little sister from sliding right out the open door!
I learned the power of centrifugal force could not match my loving Papa that day.

In fact, statistics show that those who use the word judgemental are 15 times MORE likely to be judgemental.

But I forget where I saw it :)

That’s funny you mention your story.

When I was a kid, mom borrowed aunt’s car because dad was working, and took my younger sister and I to the store. I was in the front middle of the bench seat and my sister was beside me. The passenger side door wasn’t fully closed, so my mom told me to reach over and fix it. Of course I didn’t comply immediately, and waited til she went around a sharp left curve. I open the door, out goes my little sister like a lawn dart. Some guy was mowing his lawn and then sees a three year old girl come flying out and lands on his lawn. She did a little roll and stopped. Of course like I good boy, I then made sure to close the door properly. This all happened very quickly and it took mom a few seconds to realize we were down one kid. We went back to pick up my crying sister, who minus some grass stains was fine. I will tell you I’ve taken some beatings in life, but not life that one.

The lesson I took away was, don’t obey your parents all the time, use some personal judgement heh.

We also didn’t have seat belts in that old car.

My grandma always said, “I will give you what Sally gave the drum”. It took a while to figure that out but I did what she said.
