PERTH, Australia, - The "Hamdog" a combination between a hot dog and a hamburger created by an Australian man will soon come to the United States.
A post on the Hamdog Facebook page announced the food combination would come to South Australia and the U.S. and was seeking retailers in those regions.
"America's a bloody big place, they consume around 50 billion burgers a year," inventor Mark Murray told CNBC. "If we pick up even 1 percent of that market, then that's still around $2.5 billion a year."
Murray said he came up with the idea for the meat-filled combination, which includes a special bun to accommodate both the burger and the hot dog, while incredibly hungry during a trip to the U.S. in 2004.
"I had the idea on holiday when I was leaving a bar in Nashville. I grabbed a burger and a hot dog as I was really hungry," he said. "I was sitting in the car eating them both at the same time and my wife was looking at me like I was an idiot."
He later took the invention to Australia's "Shark Tank" television investment show, where it was rejected by the judges.
It has since been sold at sporting events in Australia for about $6 each.
“You aint nuthin but a hamdog......”
But, will it play in Omaha?
What? No bacon???
Why?
As if you couldn’t get enough lips and a**holes in one, you’ll get double the quantity now!
Sorry, I “invented” these 40 years ago. Got ready to cook hamburgers on the grill, but found we had NO hamburger rolls in the kitchen. Kids were upset, wanting burgers for supper, especially from the grill.
I took handsful of meat and rolled them into the shape of hot dogs. At least we had a goodly supply of hot dog rolls on hand.
I had to carefully place the “dogs” and roll them to cook them. Mustard, onions, relish, whaatever was wanted.
Supper was named officially “HOTBURGERS”, and became a favorite. Try it, it ‘s fun and they are delicious.
I’ve made hamburgers to fit in hot dog buns as they were the only buns in the house.
Whenever there were a few hotdogs left on the grill, I would fight the dog for one or two, cut them in half and cut each in half lengthwise and then lay them out across the top of my burger.
THAT would be a perfect and true marriage of the two
If any American entrepreneur finds this and goes with it ... how about a 0.01% intellectual royalty, eh ?
I dunno; it sort of seems ‘too much’ to me - like it’s spoiling the experience of both...
A burg’s a burg and a dog’s a dog...and never the twain shall meet.
Now, there yuh go!
Hmm...he invented a roll shaped to hold both a burger & a frank.
Someone local invented a `double dog’ roll that held two.
Then there was the `wiener wagon’ (no quips, please) which held a single dog & toppings between two crusts & minimized drips. But it was wide & had to be eaten like pizza.
Hmm...at a cookout I get both burgers & hot dogs but eat them separately; different fixin’s (never put ketchup on a hot dog - Dirty Harry).
Good grief. I felt my BP and cholesterol spike, just from looking at that photo. Must have one. Soon.
