Hopefully it never issues.
1. Each independent claim is for an entirely different “invention”. They do not relate to each other at all, nor even cover the same concept (claim 1 is for a paper bag, claim 13 is for a retractable handle, claim 17 is for a collar reinforcement).
2. There is prior art for each and every independent claim on the patent (and thus, all dependents are automatically voided as well).
3. This is a very embarrassing thing for a supposedly advanced tech company to do! A patent on a paper bag? One that’s been available since at least 2009 (that I found with a quick, 10 second Google search)?
4. There is nothing novel here, nor non-obvious. White paper bags with post-consumer content have been around forever, as have paper handles, and cardboard reinforced collars. Changing the percentage of recycled material, or having the handle retract internally versus externally, or using corrugated instead of flat stock cardboard is not “non-obvious” to someone skilled in the art (or, I would argue, in this case someone not skilled in the art).
Bogus patent app, I hope it’s tossed completely. Getting terrible applications like this pushed through lowers the value of all patents - it diminishes the whole system, and that includes patents that I have.
The initial independent claims are too broad but will be narrowed during prosecution.
If it does issue, I assume it will very narrowly claim details related to the retractable handle, the pleating, and so on. Clearly, Apple spends a lot effort designing their packaging so I am not surprised they may think something about this bag is innovative.
Note: I have not (nor do I plan to) read the spec where such innovative details may be described.
Its not just an ordinary bag, its an iBag. Big difference
I think you have confused the terms “iBag”and “HoBag”...
Perhaps Apple’s CEO should patent a plastic bag and put it over his head.
