New York City’s explosion investigation spotlights the blurry line between violence and terrorism

An explosion rocked the lower Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea on the night of Sept. 17. In a press conference shortly afterward, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio stressed there was “no specific and credible threat against New York City at this point in time from any terror organization”—though he noted the incident is being treated as an “intentional act.”

And again the use of the term ‘explosion’ instead of ‘bombing’ which has completely different meanings.

My head is exploding.

So, explosives fall into a pressure cooker which falls into a dumpster. The whole thing just happens to have a detonating device which triggers the whole thing to go off. I can fully understand the views which would cause one to keep an open mind about whether this was a deliberate act or not. Fairness requires that we overlook the impossible odds that this happened by chance - is it clear that my sarcasm is dripping from this like honey from a comb?

And no, we cannot guess that this might be terrorism, because we have no specific and credible threat against NYC "at this time." Dear Mr. Mayor, I am writing to let you know that I am directing a threat against New York City, at this time. Your cheesecake is not Halal and your women need to observe purdah.
