Will Defunding the Internet Giveaway Backfire? [aw!m vanity]
President Obama is allowing a key contract to expire on September 30 -- the IANA functions contract with ICANN.
Republicans such as John Thune assure us that congress will defund the transition.
I'm no legal scholar, but how in the world is defunding going to prevent that contract from expiring?
As I understand it the contract requires the federal government to fund certain internet functions. If we have a government shutdown, those functions aren't funded. So it would be a double whammy -- Executive Branch fails to renew contract while congress refuses to meet funding requirements.
A double violation the contract from two branches of government.
Checkmate.
Please explain how this is not one of the stupidest plans in legislative history?
Obama would love to call their bluff in the name of 'international fairmindedness'.

A Safer Plan -- Impeachment Threat
As I see it the only sure-fire solution is the one our Founding Fathers had expected congress to adopt.
According to many sources what Obama is doing qualifies as a High Crime -- an impeachable offense.
According to Senator Grassley and others it is unconstitutional to undermine the federal government's property rights.
ICANN might be a privately owned organization [and poorly conceived to pinch pennies back in the 90s] but its purpose is to serve as nonprofit 'contractor' that accomodates the federally run internet.
Back to the key word: unconstitutional.
Other opponents plan to sue the federal government for the criminal nature of this scheme.
Key word: criminal.
Either accusation also means 'impeachable'.
Here's what I consider the worst accusation of all -- moral turpitude.
ICANN's mission is to help expedite freedom. Now Obama conspires with ICANN to suppress freedom of speech. Is that not moral turpitude? Few Americans would like such a scheme.
So IMPEACH. Rid us of the SCUM which so hates our free speech values.
And get it done within days. You can still have a shutdown at the same time so long as the creeps no longer impede contract renewal.
After all we have the internet. Impeachment doesn't need to take much time anymore.
Use it or lose it. And dethrone any leader in congress who gets in the way ASAP.

Actually, *moral turpitude* means misdeeds involving some type of fraud or deceit.
Impeachment at this point is not even close to a threat. Obozo will do what he wants with impunity, precisely because he knows the spineless congress will do nothing
The internet is no different than our phone system or National Highway he can’t internationalize it
Just pass a law with veto proof margin directing the contract be renewed. If you don’t get the margins, then take your case to the American people and as a last resort try the same useless funding games approach.
The shutdown would be effective as they would have no money to print transgendered bathroom signs. Barry wouldn’t stand for that.
The internet is already international, and ICANN is the infrastructure, as you said, ‘the phone directory’.
Back in ‘98 congress and Bill Clinton worked out a compromise to get that infrastructure into the private sector.
The glue that holds that infrastructure together is the renewable the IANA functions contract.
A simple majority impeachment vote in the House is easier than a veto-proof majority in both bodies. THEN you can hold serious debate.

What else has Congress done that backfired on them? The Congressional Republicans kissed obama’s ass until it was raw. What happened? The voters rewarded them by giving them a greater majority in Congress. Evidently, the voters approved of them kissing obama’s ass.
Can you think of a more workable plan?

I realize the consultants are making this tough. But what is the most workable plan for getting that contract renewed?

You seem to think there is something that can be done in the next fourteen days....nothing has been done for the last two years....why would you think something would be done now? We as citizens have the capacity to call talk shows, call our congress critters, maybe even write a letter to the editor...,that’s it that’s all.
This has been ignored by all the people in congress thinking it was no big deal. And as usual other nations interests took priority over Anerican interests.
Obozo is not afraid of impeachment because he knows congress is full of cowards. He is not afraid of ordinary citizens because he has fen building up his army of BLM and S JW over eight years.

This is a revolutionary coup on freedom of speech and all we need is informed citizens. Then impeachment and ousting of calcitrant leaders could be equally revolutionary by the same mathematical proportion, but I’m wasting my time with defeatists.
