Occasionally I travel to NYC on business and would never ride the subway.
Kudos to “13”...but there are safer options available to her as you suggested.

I ride the NYC subway every day. Unless you're riding late at night, it's a safe, efficient way to get around town. Everyone — rich, middle class, poor — should feel free to ride the NYC subway and should feel safe doing so. Also, summer is ending and I can tell you that the subway cars have been well air-conditioned 99% of the time over the past few months. I disagree with those who question why rich people would ride the subway, just as I refuse to give rich people or celebrities “points” when they do ride the subway. Riding the subway is a sensible, ordinary thing to do.
