Was the blue from a shell? The early Hebrews had a special shell to dye the holy blue threads.

Indigo dye comes from the indigo plant.......

I think that dye was naturally purple from a Murex, a marine snail. Tyre was famous for the production of the dye. It is Royal purple

Indigo is produced from the plant Indigofera tinctoria. They tried to grow it on a plantation on Cumberland Island but couldn’t make of it
