Back in the late 70’s there were electronic stores like that in Times Square ( among other things). Who would buy electronics in NY Times Square?

People who had lots of cash to get rid of?

I always wondered that myself.

You must be talking about that chain of shops, GOING OUT OF BUSINESS INC.

They were for tourists...New Yorkers knew better.

The best view of those "Tourist Traps" was the movie, "You Don't Mess with the Zohan." Wildly funny movie by Adam Sandler. "Going out of business!" "Sony guts!"
