The Japanese said that the Americans were soft and no match for the Japanese Soldier. This was proven false at Guadalcanal, Midway, China, Burma, and all the way across the Pacific Ocean. History has shown over and over that things do end well for those who underestimate their enemy. The British Crown considered the Colonists in what later was the United States of America to be an unruly mob, not able to withstand the might of the British Army and Navy. To their sorrow, they learned that they were able to and could and win. One underestimates the ability of one's foe at one's peril. As far as the Left goes, in Europe and in Asia, only the Cadre were initially armed with firearms. The masses were used as cannon fodder, hand to hand fighting, and to make the opposing forces expend their ammunition. This is how the left will work over here. The useful idiots will be used to stop the bullets. The Cadre or instigators will remain away from the scene unless it ends in their favor. If it doesn't end in their favor, they will go underground and await a more opportune time.
