Susan Oliver. One of the highly underrated hotties of the 60's. Even when she wasn't green.

“The first two seasons of Star Trek: TNG sucked eggs.”

TNG was kinda hit or miss throughout - sometimes you’d get a really good ep and other times a worthless PC lecture.

The first two seasons of Star Trek: TNG sucked eggs. Basically because Roddenberry was intent on it being a "non-violent action-adventure series" where all conflicts were solved peacefully.

Then he died, and his successors went back to shoot 'em up battles with the Romulans and introduced the Borg. The show got much, much better then.

Okay, i'll buy that. I remember thinking at the time that one of the big problems with Star Trek was the lack of space battles/fighting. There is a reason "Wrath of Khan" is the favorite Star Trek movie, and pretty much the only one anyone remembers.

I thought they could have done a better job with the Borg though. Some of that hybridization between machines and humanoids was just too stupid to be convincing.

They ended up making a hybrid that was inferior to either a machine or a human.

Fiat was apparently the low bidder.

Greatest Sci-Fi franchise ever, although it did get better after its Communist creator (Gene Roddenberry) was no longer running it.I

Ironic thing being he patterned the show after Wagon Train who star Ward Bond who was as anti communism as you could get.

That’s pretty much from TNG and beyond, not TOS.

This is true, but they were the quickest examples that came to mind. There were similar such premises in the original series, though I will have to think a bit to remember a good example. It's been awhile since I watched them.

It’s a sign of low creativity in our culture that Star Trek and Star Wars are still so prominent and people are still trying to make a buck off them and make more sequels instead of replacing them with something new.

...

And IMO, Star Trek was derived from Forbidden Planet. Star Wars was derived from various movies. That’s just the way it’s usually done.

50 years? God, I’m ancient.

Yeah, you are. I thought I was old, remembering talking about the show in grade school.

I only saw reruns - not the original run. It was a great series - but I am not a Trekkie.

Another great SciFi show is Stargate SG1 - even if you don’t like SciFi - the interaction between the 6 main characters (Col. O’Neill - Richard Dean Anderson; Captain Samantha Carter - Amanda Tapping; and 4 others make that series (which lasted a total of 10 years) actually pretty spectacular. You can watch it on Amazon Prime. It’s become a FAV of mine. Much better than the standard TV fare that’s on today.

“It was always fascinating that hundreds of years in the future, women working on advanced space ships would be wearing mini skirts, go-go boots and beehive hairdos.”

I’m not sure how I endured watching it!
:D
A friend pointed out how it was funny that a Captain had to yell down to an engine room for more power, as if it were the 19th century ship with cone-voicepipes.

I’d say more like “Gunsmoke”:
Kirk = Matt Dillon
Spock = Chester/Festus
McCoy = Doc Adams
Uhura = Kitty

I recently bought the Star Trek series on iTunes. It’s been remastered, with lost footage inserted, along with new CGI editing. Absolutely stunning in detail. $19.99 per season for the three seasons, total under $60. Not bad when you realize you’re getting 29 episodes for season 1, etc. The Man Trap is amazing to watch in HD quality. Same with the others. They run about 50 minutes each, which is something considering all the commercials that run nowadays giving you 40 minutes or less on modern TV series. Highly recommend others purchase these remastered shows.

Amazon Prime is one of the best things ever——my son installed it on my TV,against my vehement protestations,and I love it.

Proof that mother doesn’t always know best.:-)

Best episode ever-whatever time it is on during the marathon, I’m going to watch it...

My 1st husband was a Trek fan too-in fact we named one of our cats “Fisbin” after the card game Kirk made up in that episode, because it was on a Tuesday and raining when we got him from the shelter...

When I first saw ST, we still had a black and white TV. It was a real revelation a few years later when I first saw it on color TV.

star trek has devolved into

“Invasion of the PC Nazi Planet”

the JJabramvers ruined it and CBS is trashing it further with their draconian fanfilm “rules” which are structure to make any fanfilm impossible.
