We can certainly agree to disagree-a boring place is where everyone thinks alike all the time, FRiend-I just don’t believe in censorship-I honestly think it limits free thought, personal responsibility and liberty-and we need much more of all three in this country.

You download digital video files in m4v format, watchable on a Mac, iPad or iPhone via Apple iTunes media players. However, they're tied to your purchase and watchable on up to 5 machines authorized by you.
I use TunesKit to make mp4 format copies, which are playable on any media player on any machine. Since I own the original, I can make a copy for myself (legal speak here). And it gets rid of the annoyance of having to go through iTunes to check on it for each playing. TunesKit removes all that garbage.
As I said, the HD remastered series is wonderful to watch, as they upgraded the quality to look more like modern sci-fi space quality. It's not perfect, after all the series was made in the 1960s. For instance, in HD you can see the actors bump into stone archways and see the "stone" moving, and see plywood bracing on some scenery!

I’m not sure if I’d enjoy the remaster TOS as much as you. I kind of like the old school effects and prefer to keep my suspension of disbelief untouched.
I like blooper reels that involve the doors, tho!

Second your recommendation of the remastered versions available as digital downloads. The quality is outstanding. There is another source that’s even better, however.
Most of us who watched Star Trek: TOS from the beginning on the cathode TV’s of the time, and then through countless years of reruns in syndication, never actually got to see the quality of the original, but came to assume that their crappy resolution WAS the original quality.
What we never knew was that the series was actually shot on highest-quality 35mm film. That analog resolution is beyond even modern digital 1080p, but of course could never come across on TV, especially those of the time. The clarity, hues, color saturation, etc. of film is breathtaking, as we can get a glimpse of through the old Cinemascope movies, etc,. Until recently, the opportunity to experience this quality was unavailable to the general public.
In 2009, however, a new edition of the complete collection of the original series was released on Blu-ray that was transferred directly from the original film masters. Even better, it contains both the original versions and the new digitally remastered and enhanced versions. It even lets you switch back and forth between the versions while playing an episode so you can compare them!
It’s simply outstanding, and is the closest thing we can get to the original film quality for home viewing. The red shirts are actually vivid red, the black of space is really black, and best of all, you can tell that Spock actually does have a “green tint” to his complexion!
The Blu-ray collection is available on Amazon (I just checked and there’s a newer version just released in June 2016. Don’t know if it’s better than the 2009 version I have). Anyway, just thought I’d mention this for fans of TOS.
I remember seeing it in the military. I thought it was crap with real cheap crappy sets.
I later read it was a budget film mostly for kids. They came up with the “Beam me up!” because it was too costly to make a landing ship and show it landing on each planet.
