It’s cool how the wireless buds connect without having to mess around with bluetooth. Too bad they will be inevitably lost or put through the wash.

No headset jack seems like a bad idea. How do you connect to aux ports on car stereos or use an fm transmitter in cars that aren’t equipped with Bluetooth?

If they DO have a lightning to aux adapter, how will you charge your phone while listening to music?

Might be missing something though.

this new phone is like re-arranging the grains of sand on a beach and then selling the beach as new real estate.

I am sitting out of this hip hip hurray, personal politics of Tim Cook is the reason I have turned away from Apple.

Apple introduces the new Apple Watch Series 2 and the new Apple iPhone 7 in an event this morning. Neither is just a bland incremental update, but offer major updates. Apple Watch ads Dual Core, twice as fast processor with internal GPS running WatchOS 3. The iP67 water and dust resistant iPhone 7, drops the 3.5mm analog audio jack in favor of both the included Lightning earbuds and new optional wireless Stereo Airbuds that will instantly change between all your bluetooth enabled Apple devices without pairing. Apple is also including a Lightning to Analog 3.5mm adaptor for those who have legacy earbuds or earphones they prefer to use. Apple claims two hour longer battery life for the iPhone 7, one hour linger for the 7 plus than the same models in the 6s series. The processor now has four cores, two of which are low power demand "efficiency" cores which are used for tasks such as email or messaging that do not need speed. The 7 Plus has a new dual camera that includes a telephoto lens. Both cameras have optical image stabilization. Memory sizes are 32 GB through 256 GB at the same price points as last year's 16GB starting point. Apple is retaining the iPhone 6s at a lower price, but bumping the memory to 32 GB and 64GB. The iPhone 7 comes in a new Jet Black, Matte Black, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold. The Apple Watch introduces a new white Ceramic case which is harder and stronger than stainless steel. — PING!

Cash grab.

It’s hilarious listening to Appleheads twist in vain to tell us how earphones are just so antiquated and problematic that these devices really need to not have headphone jacks, because (something-something) reasons.

You are missing something, but in this kind of listing it is easy to do that. Apple is including a Lightning to 3.5mm Analog jack adaptor. Your old connections will work as expected when plugged in to that.

Depends on the size and material the hammer is made of. No phone will survive this hammer:

But most of them would have no problem with this one:

Too bad you can’t charge whilst listening to those headphones! And, per the Apple Accessory Interface Spec (R25, the current one) you CANNOT do “Y” cables. Each cable must have one, and only one, connector on each end.

I guess there could be a big dongle with several cables going to it, a little Lightning hub to carry around. Plug your phone into the hub, plug a charger into the hub, and plug your headphone adapter into the hub. So I guess that would work - just at the cost of two donglish things and two additional cables to carry around...

Really? If you want something to be waterproof, take away the ⅛th inch hole through the casing. Helps immensely. Such a jack also takes up space inside the casing that could be used for other components, such as more battery, adding to the utility of the device. Oh, that's another good reason to lose the 100 year old technology. In a day and age of multiple functions, why dedicate a port to a single purpose? Oops, another reason to keep it gone.

Who listens to music, walks around, all while charging their phone? Strawman and not a very good one. Trust you to have a half-empty glass. You want to do that, buy the Airbuds. Otherwise, suck it up and do without Madonna for a while.

I’m glad the headphone jacks are going away. They are always clogging up with dust and dirt. I hate the dangling cable that gets snagged on something and yanks the plugs out of my ears.

Wireless is the way to go. Kudos to Apple for moving us forward. They killed the floppy drive and CD-ROM drives as well and we are the better for it.

I recently upgraded to iPhone 6S Plus and it is awesome. Can’t wait for the 7S Plus next September. Who knows what that will bring?

My phone isnt a pool toy. I think I can properly keep it away from the water.

LOL! Really one of the worst regurgitation of goofy talking points I’ve heard on this yet.

Dude, you know damn well no one really saw headphones that way, nor did they see headphones jacks as “standing in the way of progress”. Progress meaning making a phone uselessly thinner for the sake of making it thinner.

Calling it “100 year old technology” just radiates the ignorance Apple users are projecting to spin this dumb idea.

I’m glad the headphone jacks are going away.

I'm glad fora completely different reason. I have had two iPod Touches and one 23" iMac where the headphone/speaker jack became inoperable. In the case of the iMac, my five year-old son stuck something into the jack that both ruined the jack and TURNED OFF the decent internal speakers, forcing me to go to an external bluetooth speaker. The lightning connectors are harder to botch.

“I’m glad the headphone jacks are going away. They are always clogging up with dust and dirt.”

Because you cant keep yours clean?

I have multiple audio devices and a huge headphone collection from high end down to dollar store earbuds, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard someone getting dirt clogged in their audio jack that much where you rather not have an audio jack.

“I hate the dangling cable that gets snagged on something and yanks the plugs out of my ears.”

Oh? That isnt a reason to take out the audio jack. I stuff the cords of mine down my shirt, and into the phone, when I’m in my woodshop for obvious safety reasons. I never thought “gee wouldn’t it be great if I couldn’t plug these in anything anymore

“Wireless is the way to go. “

Noooooooo it is not. I have both clip-on Bluetooth adapters and full earphones. Aside from the battery going dead, obnoxiously going around the corner to only lose the connection or get garbled audio, and finding that day when that unit’s internal batteries officially did and cannot be recharged, They also become easily lost or stolen, putting you out of a lot of money.

They simply dont come close to replacing actual wired earphones. That is why the best made ones are NOT wireless. You cannot reproduce wired sound over wireless. And for the casual user, Bluetooth devices are expensive and unsightly on a good day.

“Who knows what that will bring?”

A bunch of compromises and excuses.

For trips around town on the Yamaha, I put my phone in a mount, plug it into power and pop in my ear buds.

Are they going to have a two into one adapter for lightning?
