Depends on you. Under 55, you may very well qualify as a skilled migrant. They publish a list of desired skills. If you have experience in that area, and get offered a job, then you are invited.
If you are over 55, there are only (realistically) a couple pathways: Go start a business under the business visa. Invest more than $1.5 million NZD into an approved investment. Have a kid who has been accepted, sponsor you. Put a special case before the Minister of Immigration. He has the power to sign off on anything he deems in the best interest of NZ. To get him to say yes, your case has to clearly be in the interest of NZ.

Perhaps the most beautiful country in the world. 2nd most least corrupt government in the world. Rule of law. Easy to open a business. Not on the way anywhere, except the South Pole.
