Holland - The people love Americans; still remember the sacrifices made by our young men in WWII.

Israel - The birthplace of Jesus; the home base of Christianity; and the people are fantastic. Food is great, as well.

France (Normandy) - D-Day battle sites are indescribable. And the people like Americans. Great food (bread, croissants, wine). (NOTE: This doesn’t include Paris. The closest I ever got to Paris was the airport. Then I got the hell out of there)

You need to start planning for that NZ trip right now. We went in 2001 and I am so glad we did it when we were still young enough to do everything. Not like now when we are old and sick.

The only way I’ll ever get to go is to win the lottery.

I understand it is quite difficult to immigrate to NZ.

Depends on you. Under 55, you may very well qualify as a skilled migrant. They publish a list of desired skills. If you have experience in that area, and get offered a job, then you are invited.

If you are over 55, there are only (realistically) a couple pathways: Go start a business under the business visa. Invest more than $1.5 million NZD into an approved investment. Have a kid who has been accepted, sponsor you. Put a special case before the Minister of Immigration. He has the power to sign off on anything he deems in the best interest of NZ. To get him to say yes, your case has to clearly be in the interest of NZ.

Friendliest people I've ever met. The upbeat can-do spirit of TX without the bragging. I found them to be humble and optimistic and cheerful. Great quality of life. Perhaps the most beautiful country in the world. 2nd most least corrupt government in the world. Rule of law. Easy to open a business. Not on the way anywhere, except the South Pole.

So, what did you learn from the book?

Did the book mention that Poland was the only country in the world that had neglected Hitler's threats to all those who help the Austrian Jews and open its borders for them in 1938?

So, while countless trains laden with Jews roared Northward to Poland, Hitler got furious and shouted even then unprecedented threats to Poland in the German radio till he got croaked.

Many historians claim it was after then, when Germany fully declared Poland her Enemy No 1, what could even be read from the handmade words painted on their trains while invading Poland in Sept.1939.

Well, so much for common memory. Not much, albeit for a year, although not far from the German nazi demons, they could continue to live...

That led to Hitler deeming them a non-nation, though as to details I would have to refresh my memory. It could stand a reread in the near future.

While the history presented in the book seemed very accurate the author revealed himself a bleeding liberal at the end of the book. In the last chapter he predicts that the next holocaust will be against climate deniers.

Oh well!

Most of the Austrian Jewish refugees were relocated in Krakow area, mainly adopted by numerous Jewish communities, but there were also many asylum centers run and financed by the Polish state where they found their new homes. When Germans got the city and mastered it, Jews were immediately isolated from others into the Krakow Ghetto and then...

Texas.

After that, Ireland.

Maybe live in Ireland, and vacation in TX?

I’d have to have a Texas passport...

From what I’ve witnessed, only Hungarians understand Hungarian. I can usually get by with phrase books when I travel abroad, but Hungarian is spoken nothing like it is written!

Yep. You've got to be careful with those Hungarian phrasebooks.
