So, you're to blame. Good to know.

Yes. One of my life's few regrets is that it was I who was responsible for the fame and fortune of the now notorious Oprah. I don't recall exactly what I said during our interview, but it must have been powerful.

I saw Tom Arnold eating a salad in the airport lounge a few years ago. Airports are a good place to run into famous people, if you keep your eyes open.

When I was 9 years old (1970) I came in the house for lunch and thought it strange that my dad was home in the middle of the day.

A man was with him who he introduced as Dr. Wernher Von Braun.

Years later when I knew who he was I asked my dad about and he said Dr Von Braun was thrilled to have a home made lunch because he always ate in restaurants.

I was walking past the US Capitol and there was a man out front in safari clothes. I asked him, “Aren’t you Mark Russell?” and he asked back, “Aren’t you a Marine?” He said, “Let me show you something.” He rolled up his sleeve and showed me his USMC tattoo. We chatted a few minutes and he signed an autograph for me. Fun.

Tom Landry - great man, humble person. The only time I ever saw him mad was when Jerry Jones’ minions flew down to Austin, hopped a helicopter to the golf course, called him in from his golf game just to tell him he’s fired.

Earl Campbell - gentle giant. Very nice, easy going guy. And boy could he crush a golf ball.

Willie Nelson - stoned out of his mind so he was very laid back cool.

Jerry Jeff Walker - drunk. Made him quite intolerable.

That’s about it and far as famous goes.

“I know a gay guy who continually says meeting her was the best experience of his life.”

Your acquaintance probably met Cher at some sort of public event where she would have turned on the shine. Unguarded, and in private, she’s a wicked thing. Really mean.

Hate to admit it, I’m certainly not proud of this heh heh, but just for some variety here I will mention that in the ‘80s I was mildly connected with liberal circles and met a few big libs... conversed at times (briefly) with Dukakis when he was Mass. Governor and running for President in ‘88, Derek Bok when he was President of Harvard, and Senators Tim Wirth and Al Gore when they were still in the US Senate. Also Amartya Sen a few years before he won his Nobel Prize (or “Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel” as they call it, since the economics prize is not one of the original “real” Nobel prizes).... none of those people would have any particular reason to remember me.

I did ask Derek Bok who was the best student he’d ever taught (he was a Harvard Law prof for many years), and without a moment’s hesitation he said Scalia. No surprise there but good of such a left-liberal as Bok to give credit where credit is due.
