What was that little proverb she was quoting today? “You are who you walk with” - or something like that. She has a talent for throwing herself under the bus.

But Bill said:

They mention that he once had a fleeting association with the Ku Klux Klan, and what does that mean? I’ll tell you what it means,” Clinton said. “He was a country boy from the hills and hollows of West Virginia. He was trying to get elected.
= = = = = = = = = = =
Interesting comment coming from a sort that once parsed the word is.

Bill- a fleetin association is MAYBE, just MAYBE, when he was running for dog catcher he attended and maybe joined - just so the ‘good ol’ boys’ would say he was ok and one of them.

NOT eventually becoming the ‘Grand Klaxon’(or whatever). By then one has passed the curiosity stage.

Also BILL- you admitted that you frigging pols will say and do ANYTHING to get elected.

About the only REAL truism you said is
‘There certainly are no perfect politicians’

Both you Clintoons should crawl back under the rock you came from and take the kid with you.

In Germany (At least Germany of yesteryear) you could go to jail for denying the holocaust.

You can’t even say “Well Hitler had one thing right” You would have gone to jail.

But in the US the official party of the KKK still has proud membership. Why haven’t we run these dingbats out of town ?

Why is it ok in the US to say that you’re a “Proud Democrat” and continue voting for them ? Why is Democrat / Progressivism not illegal by now ?!

I never noticed before, but Hellary could nibble an ear of corn through a picket fence with those buck teeth.

Yeah, and young men and women in 1930s-1940s Germany joined the NAZI party to get jobs or “fit in” with the neighbors.

KKK Byrd

The Democrats made him leader of the Senate!
They referred to him as the 'conscience of the Senate'

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

In 1942, 24-year-old Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), whose parades in Matoaka, West Virginia, he had witnessed in his childhood. He was unanimously elected Exalted Cyclops, or leader, of his local chapter.[8]

Byrd, in his autobiography, attributed the beginnings of his political career to this incident, although he lamented that they involved the Klan.

According to Byrd, a KKK official told him "You have a talent for leadership, Bob... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd recalls that "suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did."[4]

He participated in the KKK during World War II, holding the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops [the top officer in the local Klan unit]. He did not serve in the military during the war, working instead as a welder in a Baltimore, Maryland shipyard, where he helped build warships.[citation needed]

Byrd commented on the 1945 controversy about racially integrating the military. Byrd, when he was 28 years old, wrote to segregationist Senator Theodore Bilbo, of Mississippi, vowing never to serve in such a military:

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.[5]"

He had earlier written "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side".[6][7]

From the Washington Post:

"Byrd said in the Dec. 11, 1945, letter -- which would not become public for 42 more years with the publication of a book on blacks in the military during World War II by author Graham Smith -- that he would never fight in the armed forces "with a Negro by my side." Byrd added that, "Rather I should die a thousand times, and see old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.."..."

"during the general election campaign, Byrd's GOP opponent uncovered a letter Byrd had handwritten to Green, the KKK Imperial Wizard, recommending a friend as a Kleagle and urging promotion of the Klan throughout the country. The letter was dated 1946 -- long after the time Byrd claimed he had lost interest in the Klan. "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia," Byrd wrote, according to newspaper accounts of that period. Byrd makes no mention of the letter in his new book."

Snopes is totally left wing or Alt-Left. Read the last page of the article (unless you don’t want to give their leftist site a hit.)

I had the riot act called on me, earlier today, for posting that pic..for someone saying it’s photoshopped.

ETL blew a gasket over it. I’ve seen it posted ALL OVER the NET and FR, for years....and numerous times, today.

I have no idea if it’s photoshopped....I DO know that it’s been around for YEARS...and this is the FIRST I’ve heard this claim.

Thanks for confirming what the photo depicts, that Byrd was a KKK member.

In Germany (At least Germany of yesteryear) you could go to jail for denying the holocaust.

In the US we have the First Amendment. So you can pretty much say what you want.

But in the US the official party of the KKK still has proud membership. Why haven’t we run these dingbats out of town ?

Because political parties in the US are like big tents and change identity over time as their members and the views of their members also change. The Democrat big tent used to include the southern segregationists. During the 60's and 70's a lot of people and politicians who used to form this wing of the party switched to the Republican party. But this whole transition took a long time. The Democrat Party platform began supporting civil rights in 1948 and it had already become the preferred party of nonwhite voters.

Even as far back as 1924, at the height of Klan membership, there was strong opposition to the Klan inside the Democratic party. So why didn't they separate into two parties? Probably because they were more concerned with winning elections.

People change over time and obviously neither major party currently has more than a small group of members who believe in segregation or the KKK. But even if they did, it is very rare that political parties are banned in the US. There is a law from the 1950's that made membership in the Communist Party illegal. But I'm not sure if there are any other such examples and there are probably constitutional reasons for this.
