I’m with you. I was raised by very conservative parents (from Indiana). I tell people it was my parents and grandparents that taught me the evils of racism, before school ever did, and did a better job of it, by using real-world examples of it. My parents lived in places where they were appalled by how certain people were treated, and they let us know about it.
What you describe is not racism. It is conservatism/it is freedom loving. And I share your loathing of the progressives, liberals, communists, socialists, etc. But that does not make us racists.
My parents taught me the same. Glad yours did too.
