I think she is smart. I have known women who unknowingly married men who had tax liens against them. That is an extreme mess in a community property state. Her withholding taxes go to pay his back taxes, or they have to file as married filing separately which usually results in higher taxes.
I know a woman who married a man who had not paid a fine that he got to repay damage done by him and his buddies to property back when he was about 16 years old...
