Looking at these suggestions, I forgot how many unbelievable songs there were that year. It was also the year of my first ‘Girlfriend’.

Yes. I just returned from my 45th high school class reunion (a small Midwest town in 1971).  I was in charge of music and entertainment this year and put together the background music using the top 100 songs from 1970 and 1971. Wow, forgot how great those songs were!

I heard that a group of experts recently declared that 1971 was the greatest ever year for music.  The top song of 1971 was Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog.  I remember cause I was parked "sparking" with my sweetie when it was announced.

Such fond memories...

That is an interesting list. Certainly a number of songs are 60s groups overflowing into 1970. The Beatles and the Supremes are prime examples. If I had to pick a favourite and there are many good ones I would pick We’ve Only Just Begun by the Carpenters. I know it was originally a song for a commercial for a bank but this song heralded probably the best easy listening group of the 70s and the rise of middle of the road pop to some extent during this decade.

From a Bing search:

“Crazy On You This song is by Heart and appears… on the album Dreamboat Annie (1976)”

Pardon my faulty recollection. Must be due to Art Bell using their songs in his bumper music rotation in the 90s that made me remember it that way. I was a big listener back then.

I don’t play jukeboxes much, and I was born in the 1990’s. So these ‘70s tunes are almost all strange.
OTOH I know a great many tunes from the ‘50s and ‘60s thanks to boomer parents.

Wow, I’m so sorry that you don’t like the true golden age of music.

Most music from the 90’s and beyond is truly forgettable. I really didn’t start listening to music until the late 1970s but I can name that tune for about 80% of the top 100 list from 1970 even though I was only seven years old then. That’s because of the staying power of those strong songs. Stop in at Home Depot or just about any store. What’s on the speakers? Generally 60’s through early 80’s. There’s a reason for that.
