Inside the Failing Mission to Tame Trump’s Tongue
New York Times ^ | August 13, 2016 | ALEXANDER BURNS and MAGGIE HABERMAN

...

Nearly two months later, the effort to save Mr. Trump from himself has plainly failed. He has repeatedly signaled to his advisers and allies his willingness to change and adapt, but has grown only more volatile and prone to provocation since then, clashing with a Gold Star family, making comments that have been seen as inciting violence and linking his political opponents to terrorism.

Advisers who once hoped a Pygmalion-like transformation would refashion a crudely effective political showman into a plausible American president now increasingly concede that Mr. Trump may be beyond coaching. He has ignored their pleas and counsel as his poll numbers have dropped, boasting to friends about the size of his crowds and maintaining that he can read surveys better than the professionals.

In private, Mr. Trump’s mood is often sullen and erratic, his associates say. He veers from barking at members of his staff to grumbling about how he was better off following his own instincts during the primaries and suggesting he should not have heeded their calls for change.

He broods about his souring relationship with the news media, calling Mr. Manafort several times a day to talk about specific stories. Occasionally, Mr. Trump blows off steam in bursts of boyish exuberance: At the end of a fund-raiser on Long Island last week, he playfully buzzed the crowd twice with his helicopter.

But in interviews with more than 20 Republicans who are close to Mr. Trump or in communication with his campaign, many of whom insisted on anonymity to avoid clashing with him, they described their nominee as exhausted, frustrated and still bewildered by fine points of the political process and why his incendiary approach seems to be sputtering.

He is routinely preoccupied with perceived slights

The Khan “Gold Star Family” appearance was a calculated scam
on a par with the Ahmed Mohamed “Clock Boy” scam.

Both are typical tactics where seemingly harmless muslims take action to incite a response for political purposes, then act surprised and hurt that anyone could possibly question their actions or motives.

In the case of the Khans, they were set up by the DNC as trolls to elicite a response from Trump.

They used the death of their son to justify a mean spirited and unjust personal attack on Donald Trump as a political ploy.

Then they used their dead son as a shield as they self righteously act offended that Trump would defend himself.

We have been told that they are all in cahoots to do everything they can to take him down so why help them by posting their crap?

Needless to say I won’t click on it.

Inside the Failing Mission to Tame Trump’s Tongue

Or, more accurately, inside the failing mission to make Trump adher to political correctness.

Looks like Trump is winning this war.

Did you happen to see that photo of Cruz posing with his new buff, the Ready for Hillary gang? Love that smirky grin on Cruz’ face; priceless.

Everybody should listen to Trump's Fairfield CT rally last night. He was ON FIRE. It's exactly what he has to do in order to win the election. A majority will vote to bring down the system if, and only if, they're mad as *ell about it.

The old corrupted Republican Party has no interest in saving this election. He gave them a mainstream-acceptable VP choice. He did fund raising for them. If that wasn't enough, FORGET IT!! There are states to be won out there, such as CT, MA, and PA and now Wisconsin I'd think where people see their worlds falling apart, and it's the fault of DC pols, and hillary's a big part of it.

Let's all get out there and tell it like it is! We don't get some law and order, control of our borders, stop civilization-ending warmongering, nothing will be left! Keep in mind Syria, Libya, France, and Germany (etc) were places where people liked living just a few years ago!

grrr.....end of this rant!

Gee, the Hillary trolls are out in force today. Why the hell are you posting a New York Times political hit piece on a conservative forum? Huh?

I am finding it hard to believe that 20 Republicans who are close to Trump’s campaign were willing to speak with the NY Times considering the sort of coverage they have written about him. What conservative, what Trump supporter, knowing how the Times has treated Trump, knowing how the Times doesn’t like Trump and just had an article basically saying that journalists who write about Trump and see him as a dangerous demagogue essentially have right to be biased, would speak to the Times anonymously? Let alone anyone who works for his campaign. In order for this article to be true, they would have to find 20 people in Trump’s inner circle enough to know him that way. They would have to find 20 people who not only know him that way but are willing to speak to the Times knowing such an article would harm his campaign. IF this is true, if 20 people who were in my inner circle were willing to speak on condition of anonymity to the Times in an article that is not beneficial to me, I’d be sullen and cranky too.

What bull. Trump has become more presidential and professional since the conventions. His speeches are now much more focused, organized, and policy oriented. Instead of wondering off with a ton of anecdotes, he makes sure to lay out Hillary’s failing (to varying degrees) in every speech. He’s been working very hard. He’s so “exhausted” that he’s often doing 3 or 4 rallies, conferences, and fund raisers each day. I think he’s clearly improved a great deal as a candidate.

Naturally most Americans would never have had the opportunity to see this though, because the propagandists do not want to cover him and his policy proposals seriously. The problem is the manipulative media makes up scandals about him and distorts his words left and right. They are on a righteous mission to do any and everything to bring Trump down, even if they lose all credibility as objective “reporters” of the news. They make no attempts at actual honesty, decency, fairness, self-reflection, or accuracy. Our political media have turned into pure propagandists. Nothing more.

We’ve never had such an onslaught in the history of our nation from such a large majority of the press to bring down a candidate through deception, lies, misrepresentations, ridiculous inferences, and extremely partisan spin. These people are simply evil and the enemies of the United States. I really cannot think of a bigger threat to the survival of this nation, not even Hillary. I’m sure they think they are great warriors for justice and what they deem to be right though.

>>>What do they teach these people in journalism school? Their chance in life to investigate and report history in the making and they don’t even get out and go to a Trump rally

What they teach people in J-school is that they must use their positions in the media to effect social change.

“why bother posting this crap?”

My sister lives and breathes this moment-to-moment irrelevant and made-up trivia. I keep begging her to just turn off the TV until after the election. Instead she hangs on as if, at any moment, somebody will rush up to the mike and say something so damaging that the world will end.

I haven’t watched TV since the OJ trial. I feel so much more relaxed than I did when I constantly heard, “We’re all gonna die!!! Film at eleven.”

Anonymous sources? Anonymous sources tell me that you have bad breath. How will you defend those charges, Mr. Reaganaut1!

NYT lies. If it wasn’t just made up, it was 20 low-level functionaries from the RNC or Manafort minimum wage staffers who have never seen Trump in private close up.

Looks like the two @sshats are at it again. Anytime you see an article in the Wash Post or Times with more than one author, the article is not worth reading. In fact, the more writers listed on an article, the more likely it will be mental masturbation...pure unadulterated Irish BS....

Here’s the bottom line, Folks. Trump says things that stir emotions from all sides, but in the end it’s what is the person going to do for us.

If our country has lost it’s moral compass, and is not loath to the idea of a president who clearly has become more rich from her position, and from the calamity of others, then we’re in bad shape. I’m at the point that when I meet someone, and I ask, who are you voting for? And they reply, “Hillary Clinton, of course.” I walk.

I had one young 35 school teacher tell me, “Trump is an idiot. He’s a racist, a sexist. He’s crazy etc.” She has the whole narrative fed to her by the idiots who wrote this meaningless article.

Trump needs to understand that these people will vote for him, if he asks. I think he doesn’t like the idea that he needs 51% to win. He wants 80%.

In the end we will vote for Trump or seriously, may God help us.

The idea that he is erratic, angry, sullen, and exhausted is a new Dem talking point. Scarborough tried it out a few days ago on his over-the-top Trump bashing TV show. I have a strong feeling the source for all these lefty “reporters” is either the DNC or anti-Trump RNC figures who have heard rumors or simply made things up whole cloth. Remember, everything that they think is going to be a big issue for Hillary to deal with, they try to hit Trump with first. This isn’t the first time.

I think one of Trump's strengths is the negation of the NYT's premise that we should even want to tame it down. How refreshing is it to hear a politician say what they're thinking without running it through the NYT's PC filter? You may disagree with what Trump says, but unlike most (lying) politicians, at least you know where he really stands.
