Thanks! This is one of those things (many things) that I can never remember correctly.
The LA Olympics in 1984 turned a profit. The current leadership might not be as competent but the infrastructure for the Games largely exists or will by 2024. The Coliseum, Rose Bowl, and Stub-Hubb Center can host opening ceremonies and field games like soccer and rugby, and the new stadium for the Rams in Inglewood will be done by 2019. Their are smaller track stadiums at USC and UCLA. Plus Dodger and Angel Stadiums.
Staples Center, Pauley Pavillion, and the Galen Center seat 12,000 to 18,000 for indoor court games. Even the Shrine Auditorium could be used for smaller fixing events and the like. There are existing swimming facilities, and plenty of existing venues for sailing and rowing.
Six major airports (not counting San Diego) serve the region with 175,000 hotel rooms available throughout LA, Orange, and Riverside Counties. Light rail, while not widely used day to day, would be a big plus for an Olympics that did not exist in 1984.
There’s no other place in the country better suited to host successful games than Los Angrles.
But the IOC makes money from building new venues and the resulting kickbacks.
Almost any major American city is capable of hosting the games with just a few additions. But that’s not what the IOC wants.
There’s been $1.5 billion of improvements since then, and hundreds of millions spent between 1977 and 2002. Over $5 billion is budgeted for further upgrades by 2023.
LAX has a long way to go to get up to par, but to compare the airport in 1977 to today is a gross distortion.
As I stated, NO city in the United States has the capability to put on Summer Games like LA. The LA bid will not include much in the way of new venues.

Dallas Fort Worth could host if not for the heat.
We’ve got High School football stadiums that could easily host events.
2016 is not 1984.
Maybe it is because most of the money there is actually spent on improvements rather than skimmed off by politicians and their connections in the construction business.
H3ll, even the Red Chinese, with all the graft and corruption built into their system, do a better job with money for improvements than does LAX.
Love the Dallas area. Yes, there could be a great Olympics there. There just is not the same existing infrastructure as LA, high school stadiums or no. I didn’t even mention Veterans Stadium in Long Beach, the Santa Ana Bowl, and La Palma Stadium in Anaheim which could be used and even expanded.
From the number of hotel rooms to the number of major indoor arenas, it just doesn’t compare. I’m sure there’s good sailing too but not like here. Not the same beach volleyball venues either.
But I do like Dallas!
Thank you Captain Obvious!
Looking deeper, the number of major stadiums in the DFW area is impressive. Besides Jerry World there’s the old Cowboy Stadium (ATT&T Park?), SMU’s stadium, and the old Cotton Bowl Stadium. I think the comparison breaks down in other areas though.
They demolished the old Texas Stadium in Irving. But yes, I could see the Cotton Bowl as the “Olympic Stadium”. JerryWorld really wouldn’t work for it.
You’ve also have TCU, University of North Texas, and you could even extend down to Waco and Baylor’s stadium.
I thought they’d knocked that down but I didn’t see that indicated online. You don’t think Jerry World could at least host some events?
I saw a little bit of the Olympics at the gym. Musloid and tranny propaganda.
