Will avoidance of distractions and avoidance of going off message improve his chances with the 51%? That is what both his friends and enemies are advising.
Going off message is the cardinal sin of professional consultants. Falling for the bait of the other candidate with distractions always ranks in the top 3 for consultants.

A. Your message of halting immigration was, to paraphrase, "a temporary halt until we find out what is going on" - and not an absolute halt that you have allowed the MSM to plant, water, and grow.
B. Consider the heightened focus today on "Zika" and no mention of the active "TB cases" being allowed to enter the US - images of "iron lungs" come to mind ...
C. Would it be so bad to let the GOPe/RINO eat themselves, letting the MSM cover/hype or ignore it?

I don’t think it would be embarrassing - I think it would be the result of:
- about 40% of the population automatically in the D column because they’re takers and need the D’s in power
- the most vile assault ever perpetrated by the media
- the undoubted voter fraud that can be expected
