Post #9 ~ Nostalgic memories of the Herald Square (flagship) Macy’s location :

As a wee lad, I occasionally took the ‘A’ train to Macy’s in Manhattan. Upholstered seats, old-time fans, and straps in every car.(the origin of the word ‘straphanger’)

No graffiti, no foul language, and woe to the man who declined to offer his seat to a woman! A feeling of community, smiling faces, and NO sense of fear.

One more from memory lane : Each time we travelled into NYC it was a MUST that we visit the Horn & Hardarts Automat! Those days may be gone, but not yet forgotten. :^)

My family is from Italy.

My aunt would take us once a year to the Plaza for tea time. We’d tour the Macy’s windows and other sites. She was an interior decorator from Venice Italy so she had the heavy accent. Just making a picture for you.

I felt so special in that tea room.

I wonder if the Plaza still does that Tea time. The best deserts! This was back in the ‘70s I guess not as long ago as your story. Thank you for that!!!
