You are right on. That is the biggest issue right there I had with Cruz. Using the poor family of fallen policeman to make a point of not honoring his pledge. What a sick individual.

“Vote your conscience” was certainly a boneheaded move by Ted.

You answered your own question.

So, eliminating Cruz is more important than defeating Hillary? Ok, masterful, I guess...? I see Hillary is already using Cruz' words about "voting your conscience" as a campaign slogan. Maybe it would have been even more brilliant to just let Hillary give a speech instead of a dem operative like Cruz?

If Ted runs for Senate again, you can bet that I will "vote my conscience."

t’s commonplace for politicians to disbelieve their word is their bond, as evidenced by Cruz breaking his promise to endorse his party’s nominee, evidently thinking whilst on the convention stage, “At this point, what difference does it make?”

Did she just compare Cruz to Hillary? Wow! He is toast!

Ted could have and should have ended his speech with something like this.

” blah, blah, blah, while Donald Trump and I have differences, big differences in methods and priorities, make no mistake, in this we are united, Hillary Clinton must be defeated in November if this Republic is to survive, period.” ( pause for slow head swiveling view of audience )

“For the sake of the Republic, I call on all of my supporters to join me in supporting the GOP nominee, Donald J. Trump for president of these United States.” ( pause for standing ovation, head bent humbly downwards, slowly rising to face cameras, cut, print )

But Ted, the egoist would have ad-libbed something like this, just to zing Trump and appease the cruzites.

“Just as FDR and Winston Churchill joined with Stalin to vanquish Hitler so must we for the moment set aside our differences and all join in the battle against Hillary Clinton this November. ( stern look towards Trump box seats) Gird your loins, put on the armor of truth, and win this battle!

God Bless America!”

Yup. I haven’t seen this much interest in a national political convention since the 1976 RNC when Reagan and Gerald Ford were in a tight race that wasn’t decided until the balloting at the convention. Trump certainly masterminded the Melania speech “fiasco”. He probably knew about the attempted coup on Monday and knew ahead of time that Cruz would not endorse him, but he let both events go forward and the end result was Mike Lee and Ted Cruz destroying themselves. Now Trump will come in to clean up the “mess” and give his acceptance speech in front of a large TV and Internet audience. Trump set the narrative for this convention himself and is running circles around everyone.

Cruz is already the pariah of the Senate. All but a few senators literally hate this man and swear publicly that they will never work with him in the future. He is the least liked man in Congress.

And I can see why. You can't trust the man to keep his word:

Lyin' Ted

The reviewed rext was a 9 minute speech, as that was his alloted time. He went off script and spone for 22 minutes.

Trump came in and saved Ted by diverting attention away from Ted to himself as he entered the hall. Had Trump not done that Ted would still be blattering on this morning. Ted is trying to extend his moment by speaking to the Texas delagation.

Ted was shocked to be booed off the stage.
