Ted Cruz would run in 2020 even if Trump is president, RNC official says

CLEVELAND — For the first time in 36 years, there was a vote on the floor of a party’s nominating convention this past Monday that actually held an element of suspense.

In the hour or so ahead of a vote in which insurgents were attempting to reset the convention rules, Republican National Committee operatives circulated the floor and the back halls of Quicken Loans Arena, buttonholing delegates to argue why they should retract support for the motion, and getting them to sign their names to withdrawal forms. Trump aides, by contrast, bullied delegates with vague and ineffective threats.

In one corner of the arena floor, near CNN’s broadcast booth, delegates from the District of Columbia listened to appeals from high-ranking RNC officials.

The RNC’s argument to the D.C. delegates boiled down to this: A vote for the rules reset would open the door to Ted Cruz becoming the GOP’s nominee four years from now.

Lots of people who voted for Cruz in the primaries this time around won’t do it again. I’m one of them.

Not with my vote, maybe he can run with Kirk so I don’t have to vote for either of them.

I'm sure the CFR & Goldman Sachs are more excited than he is.

Lyin Ted is always ready to play ball with the highest bidder.

Me either! I found this on Facebook before this story posted. This is what Crying Ted will do at the convention tonight:

He is a small pimple of a man with zero-Christian character. Very disappointed but the character assessments of him on Free Republic have been spot on.

I voted for him in the primary. I later preferred Trump. I will make the decision tonight if Cruz ever gets another of my votes. If he doesn’t fully come out and support and endorse Trump, he’ll never see one of my votes again.

These clowns that are not doing everything that they can to keep Hillary out of office will never have my support.

Same with me. I voted for Cruz in the Louisiana primary, but I had Trump as a very close second. If I known then what I know now, I would have voted for Trump instead.

Better check-in with Texans before making such claims.

I am going to send $$ to his primary challenger. I helped him with his Senate and some of his POTUS run. The bank is closed. Never more!

Good luck. The establishment was blindsided by Trump, but they’re not going to let Cruz find an opening. They pretend to like him because of their hate for Trump, but they hated Cruz first.

Honest to God, Cruz has lost his mind. His political high water mark is now in the rear view mirror. I’ll never vote for him again and I championed him for Senate and hoped he’d wind up on the SC. I don’t want him near either anymore.

Many of them want us to come to them on bended knee, bearing flowers and chocolates. I just had to set one of them straight, today.
