MARK LEVIN: FACT:Reagan never endorsed Gerald Ford at any time during the 1976 GOP convention or campaign

The Reagans were furious at how the Ford campaign had attacked them. Paul Manafort will know this as he was a top delegate counter for Ford and against Reagan at that convention. Ford won the nomination, of course, then lost to Jimmy Carter. Four years later, Reagan won the nomination, won the general election in a landslide, and the rest is history.

My understanding is that Ford said he would accept if Reagan sort of ran things as a co-presidency, and Reagan couldn’t do that.

Probably lots of insider nuances in there, but that is what I understand.

And you know what? I agree. Ford as vp (and nothing else) would have been better than elevating a bush. You are quite right.

“Did Reagan sign a pledge to? Ted did.”

Reagan did not sign such a pledge, yet he did endorse the nominee.

Cruz did sign such a pledge, yet he has disregarded that pledge.

Cruz is not, will not be, and indeed cannot be a Ronald Reagan.

The little feets are too small, and the shoes to big, for lil’ Felito to ever wear them.

Big difference here. Trump is not Ford and Cruz is no Reagan.

I think that is irrelevant, since elections are about getting votes.

Not endorsements.

I can see that cutting both ways. “I endorse Ford. But I’m not voting for him, and I urge you to follow your conscience and vote how you deem fit.”

I’d rather have, “vote for Ford.” There is no magical power in “endorsement”....which means simply giving public approval to, and for a particular purpose. In the context of an election, a public urging of the voting public to vote in a particular way would in the English speaking world be the same as an “endorsement”.

I specifically recall Reagan campaigning for Ford in the fall of 1976, or am I hallucinating?

Then again, as your link showed, Reagan comes on says Carter will screw this, that, and the other thing and I believe otherwise. And, by the way Ford believes on this one thing, “this and that”, so go vote for him because he’s not the other guy.

Yes, it’s publically asking you to vote for someone, but, to me, doesn’t sound like much of an endorsement. More of a “what the heck, vote for this guy because he’s not that guy”.

A principled conservative, Mark ain’t. He’s okay with 4 years and 3 USSC appointments by Hillary. That gives him time to make another big lot sale of his fantasy books to the Cruz 2020 PAC. Meanwhile, he will be context switching between screaming on the air about how tyrannical Hillary is and pushing Goldline.

Goof find. What’s amazing to me is Carter’s proposed $5-$7 defense cut is pocket change to politicians today.

I don't think he was the stupidest,, as he was a part of our nuclear sub program, but he was certainly dangerously naive. Obung-hole definitely takes the crown for being intellectually lazy and blindly stupid educationally.

Something I have noticed over the years is the capability of otherwise brilliant people to have holes in their knowledge when outside their specialty.

There are a lot of people who can be reasonably intelligent on a broad range of issues, and then there are others who become kooks when discussing topics outside their area of knowledge.

Obama is a complete fool. He doesn't know anything worth knowing, and his intelligence is not very good either. It is obvious that he owes his entire career to affirmative action. Were he a white man with exactly the same accomplishments, he would be a nobody just as he so richly deserves to be.

Maybe Levin has some sort of mealy-mouthed way of saying that this is not an endorsement:

Thanks, CD!

levin has forgotten about the internet, or lost his mind, or just doesn't care. Pick one.

At any rate, levin has NO credibility.

Who is Mark Levin? And why should I care about what he says?

Surely just slipped levin’s mind, that little factoid.

God he’s insufferable in his disdain. I heard him for a few minutes yesterday and his ranting made me laugh. Foolish foolish man. Is he in love with cruz? Something weird with those 2.

What Levin is doing is poisoning the well and giving the other side more and more ammunition. The more he runs his mouth about Trump the more he’s instrumental in influencing some impressionable, “undecided” listeners to sit out the vote or go 3rd party. I wish he’d just shut the hell up. I can’t listen to him anymore.

I could tell Mark that I have never stubbed my toe in Antarctica and it would have as much validity and value as his statement that he considers to have merit and weight.

You think Reagan was speaking against Ford at the 76 convention speech?

I'm sorry to intervene, but I also did not hear a direct endorsement of President Ford in that convention speech. He did endorse the Republican Platform and ideals. If I'm wrong and you can direct me to the exact wording of a specific endorsement of Pres Ford as the candidate I stand corrected. Also, the remarks by Reagan were impromptu, not a scheduled speech - he was called down to speak by President Ford - a kind of awkward situation all around which he handled magnificently.

Either way, if Ted Cruz makes comments similar to the ones made by Reagan would you consider that an endorsement of Donald Trump? Not comparing Reagan with Cruz, just trying to establish the ground rules, if any, to satisfy.

I suspect that even if Cruz gives a ringing endorsement of Trump it will not suffice for some.
