On a conference call Tuesday afternoon, the Big 12 conference announced that it has unanimously approved expansion exploration. To translate for those either unfamiliar or simply fatigued by the jargon of conference realignment, that basically means the league has kicked off an expansion frenzy.

Maryland and Rutgers do not belong in the Big 10.
The University of Texas is its own worst enemy in this case.
It is obvious the Big 10 = 14 added those schools forcing cable/satellite subscribers in the metro areas to pay carriage fees.
“Nobody except hardcore fans is going to watch Memphis v. Texas Tech. “
Considering the domination of the sport by certain teams, those games tend to be the most exciting games.
Agree. Rather pathetic list aside from BYU. Colorado State could make sense as the Big 12 lost Colorado and Nebraska to the Pac12 and Big 10 respectively. Connecticut is an absolute joke. Cincinnati would be WVA’s regional rival. Big 12 has a Big problem at the moment in that Baylor is going to be poison for a few years until everyone forgets their issues.
You’re right.
This “expansion” was driven by TV revenue.
U. Texas really did make their bed, poorly. Tried to set up a league where they would win every game every year, kick out the other decent teams, and then proceed to be worse and worse every year. It’s actually pretty wonderful.
But 1/2 the revenue goes to UT and the penalty for leaving the conference is monstrous. UT made their own bed of feces. I hope they enjoy it for a long long time. Arrogant dolts!
Who is to say that OK and TX don't bolt for the PAC 12. They would rather play USC than Cincinnati.
The university that no one talks about is San Diego State. Thirty thousand students. High entrance requirements and multiple degrees and fields of study. Access to SD TV market and California recruiting. Great place to travel to.
National basketball team.
SDSU is the best choice.
UT destroyed the Southwest Conference and did a pretty good job on the Big 12 (with an assist from TT and ESPN). But for TCU and the Baylor Rapists the B12 would be history by now.
The Big 12 is dead, they just don’t know it yet.
Eventually Texas, Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor will join the SEC
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will go to the Pac 12
Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and West Virginia will join the Big Ten
Then we will have Four Super Conferences, which makes it nice and easy to do playoffs.
What decision in college sports isn't driven by TV revenue?
Memphis had 4-5 of the 100 most highly rated games last season and, despite not being in a major conference, Memphis is always in the top 10 markets for college football television ratings. I believe they are likely to get in.
College football plays on Saturday.
Houston would probably jump at a chance to join the SEC. Not sure what the SEC will do while the Big Whatever Number expands. The teams the SEC would really like to have are UNC and NC State but those chances are near zero.
Texas will never be in the SEC after the way they have treated A&M. The SEC would much rather have OU and OSU.
Cincinnati and Houston are the two teams. Book it.
