I can’t understand why the cliched standard advice given by parents for several generations, and stated by so many politicians I have listened to over the years qualifies as “plagiarism”.
Who owns political statements and phrases? Do these get registered somewhere?

I don’t care if her parents gave her advice similar to that given by Michelle’s parents. It is good advice, and Michelle doesn’t own it.
It should be repeated much more often to our youngsters, and we don’t need to ask Michelle for her permission.

Could be Trump’s playing 4 dimensional chess. Yet again, the media goes into a frenzy over a pretty benign issue and Trump gets free press out the wazoo. A couple of lines in a 17 minute speech—meh. It’s not going to convert any Trumpers to Cankles or vice-versa. Added bonus: it outs the Left for the hypocrites they are: Moochelle and Obozo and Joe Biden all plagiarized, crickets from the media.

I don’t buy the idea that the Trump campaign did this deliberately. It doesn’t “own” the news cycle for Trump. It clouds it.

I’d certainly want to find this guy and drag him out by his millennial haircut and show him the sidewalk with my boot up his a$$. That might even be the right answer. It sounds decisive. No speech. Just a simple, “You’re Fired!” Let the press prattle about what’s going on.
When it’s Trump’s turn to talk, at the end of the week, of course he is going to refer to his wife’s lovely speech, and I would think that he could certainly express his pride in her presentation and his knowledge that she meant all of the thoughts expressed in it. Who cares what this dim-witted jag-off did?
Couple that with the reports just now that someone was shooting at the California delegation bus and it might seem like there are forces trying to derail CA. delegates ahead of vote.

The only problem is to address the aforementioned threats, Trump has to win the election. The "plagiarism", real or imagined, puts another obstacle in Trump's path to the White House.
I wish people would take the time to compare the lines of the speeches. There is no doubt those 2 paragraphs are almost identical. Definitely sabotage. Some people are commenting without comparing the lines, saying it’s no big thing.
There is a mole, and this person (or persons) needs to be gotten rid of quickly. That is the point of concern, and it is a very big thing for the Trump team.

I’m sick of hearing about this. There were so many great speeches last night, and this is what the dam*ed media and Freepers are focused on? The problem is that as soon as we join in the rush to assign blame, we are conceding there is a problem, when there isn’t.
Ideally, this stupid nothing burger would be treated as just that, a nothing burger. I would react like Manafort and say something like, “yeah these phrases are boilerplate, you see them repeated in these kinds of speeches all the time. Like different writers describing a sunset are going to sound very similar. Ponds have ripples, trees sway in the breeze, clouds have silver linings, so what, big deal. She’s not publishing a theory in a scientific journal.
Trump is great at getting past these attempts to make him look bad, precisely because he doesn’t go all wobbly and prematurely concede there is a problem, and he doesn’t start pointing fingers, apologizing and firing his staff.
Let Trump get past this his way; Lord knows he’s a lot better at it than your typical Republican who freaks out and ends up resigning or suspending his campaign over NOTHING!
It doesn’t matter what Michelle did. What matters is a high level of sabotage took place last night. That is not just a “media distraction” but a major concern for Trump.
I’m sure he has people he can really trust and will get rid of the mole(s) as soon as possible!

From what I understand, Bob Dole used that same phrase in 1996 - so, did Moochelle plagiarize him? This is much to do about nothing - it gives the media an out to covering the great speeches made last night.
