It'd be taken as an indication that Trump might be desperate and thinks people need a reason to vote Republican in spite of his being on the ticket. Which is probably why Kristol suggested he do it in the first place.

If timing was right on election cycles, I’d put Giuliani running for Gov of NY and Christie for AG.
GOP New Yorkers do one thing really well.
They manage well and understand the NY power structure.
Not too much knowledge outside of NY but a good play inside.
This is why I like Trump.
