French Foreign Legion is NOT a PC organization. If anybody can wipe out ISIS (at least in Tunisia), they can.

They would be better off deploying them in Marseilles.

Sorry to disagree but as a military force they are borderline worthless. Although somewhat ruthless they arent very effective against a trained fighting force. ISIS could be wiped but it will take more than the Foreign Legion.

Colonialism doesn’t seem so bad in retrospect.

Well, if by "colonialism" you mean European peoples governing non-European peoples for their benefit, what would anyone ever think it was bad?

That’s fine, but ISIS didn’t attack them in Tunisia, it attacked them in France. What will they do about ISIS sympathizers in France?

If they aren’t ready to do something about ISIS sympathizers in France, then you can guarantee this is going to happen again.

Countries are going to learn at very heavy and painful expense that they have borders for a reason. You don’t let just anyone come across and take up residence in your country.

Don’t show your ignorance. The French Foreign Legion is NOT to be toyed with. Obviously you know zero zilch about them.

We could have, but we are not allowed to.

Why? It’s just a non-religious guy going through a divorce who happened to have a truck crash. At least that’s what the media tells me.

The French Foreign Legion don't fool around. When they are sent to African nations, the groups they oppose often disperse in all directions rather than directly encounter the French Foreign Legion. Since no jungle in Tunisia, it would be much harder for ISIS to hide.

The French Foreign Legion know how to politely interrogate a suspect (waterboard).

Where French is not the primary language spoken.

Part of me was wondering if their justifiably-earned reputation is far more ruthless than they actually are today with all of the PC crap the regulars are getting.

General Norman Schwartzkopf praised the Legion’s performance in the Gulf War, 1991. However, Hollande etal, have cut them down to 7K men. Spread thin already.

The problem would be in identifying who is ISIS, who is an ISIS sympathizer, and who is just some ordinary Joe trying to get by.

Tough to do when there are no front lines.

IMO, the answer is a wall.

Hollande, the French President, is calling for 10,000 military on the streets and all who have served in the Gendarmerie or the Armed Services to assist in an all out effort to protect the borders and penetrate the cells of Islamists in France. Very good move on his part.
I was in Paris in ‘86 when bombs were going off everywhere and sirens were a constant music throughout the days and nights.
We need to work with the French. They are cognizant of the best methods to combat terrorists. We have a lot to learn.

Thanks. This sounds like a plan.

I just remember after the massacre in Paris Hollande announced that France would not be deterred from bringing in even more "Syrian refugees". And then he went ahead, while the debris in the streets was still smoking and the bodies weren't cold, with their stupid Global Warming conference. And of course Obama flew to Paris to talk about Global Warming while they hadn't yet even cleaned up the blood in the streets.

So I know our guy doesn't get it because he's complicit. I'd like to think Hollande might be willing to actually protect his country. We'll see.

“Sorry to disagree but as a military force they are borderline worthless.”

That’s not a position that can be supported by any rational facts. Point us to an FFL failure that backs this up. The fact is, they are extremely competent infantry, as good as any on earth. Airborne, engineers, and MP units. They are almost tailor made for such warfare.

They are about 3 times the size of the USN Seal teams, and come with organic combat engineers and MP units.
